GLAD (LGBTQ Legal Advocates and Defenders) wants all LGBTQ people to know their employment rights—especially in light of the case recently heard by the US Supreme Court.
“Discrimination at work continues to be a common concern for many LGBTQ people, especially youth and people of color. A pending case before the Supreme Court raises the question of whether we could lose federal LGBTQ employment protections,” states GLAD.
And so this Saturday, Oct, 26, GLAD is presenting a free brunch and conversation called “Know Your Rights: LGBTQ Non-Discrimination Employment Protections & How They Protect You.” The event is being held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building, 2300 Washington St. in Roxbury. Click here for more and to RSVP.
Leading the discussion are Janson Wu, GLAD executive director; Chai Feldblum, former US equal employment opportunity commissioner in the Obama Administration; and Connie McGrane, general counsel of the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination.
At the event, GLAD will share information on the high-profile cases just heard at the Supreme Court about whether LGBTQ workers are protected from discrimination under federal law, what the cases means for LGBTQ individuals and what GLAD can all do to advocate for strong non-discrimination protections for all LGBTQ people. Plus, GLAD will answer questions about filing a claim of discrimination, how to document a case, where to get help, and what to expect from the process.
The event is being cosponsored by More Than Words, the Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition, BAGLY (Boston Alliance of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer Youth), and The Theater Offensive.
