On the eve of the 49th annual Boston Pride Parade yesterday, the Boston Globe predicted a record crowd—estimating as many as 750,000. Its theme, “Looking Back, Loving Forward,” saluted the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising—the spirit of love and empowerment from then till now, and the hope moving on into the future.
And while official numbers aren’t in yet, tens upon hundreds of thousands surely came out on a beautifully blue-skied Saturday. An estimated 50,000 representing over 400 groups marched along the two-mile route, which wound its way from the Boston Public Library, into the South End, around the public garden and Boston Common, in front of the State House and into City Hall Plaza, where the festivities continued.
The festivities which officially got going on May 31, runs through June 11. For more, go to bostonpride.org.
And capping off the celebration on June 12 once again this year is Boston Spirit’s annual Summer Sunset Cruise, now in its twelfth year. One of the largest and most popular events of the summer, more than 700 friends will cruise around Boston Harbor dining on delicious food and dancing to the amazing sounds of DJ Mocha.
100 percent of the proceeds raised from this event go directly to benefit Fenway Health.
Buy your tickets here and gather on Wednesday, June 12, at the World Trade Center pier aboard Bay State Cruise Company’s Provincetown II at 6 p.m. The cruise departs at 6:30 p.m. and returns at 8:30 p.m.
