Boston Pride 2019 may seem a ways away with Pride Week festivities scheduled for May 31–June 9 this year, with the big parade taking place on Saturday, June 8 … but planning is well underway.
And voting is open for the 2019 Boston Pride Theme and Boston’s Pride Committee wants to hear from you!
Continuing their tradition of community engagement and decision-making in the selection of the Pride Theme, the Boston Pride Committee is asking the Greater Boston LGBTQ community to once again vote on their favorite Pride Themes, culled down from the most popular candidates that community members volunteered via online polling since mid-December.
All members of the Boston Pride’s LGBTQ community are invited to vote for their favorite candidate by Monday, January 31, all the way up until 11:59 p.m., but clicking here (on the Boston Pride website’s theme voting page).
On the above-noted Boston Pride web page, you can vote for one of the following themes for upcoming Boston Pride 2019:
Millions of Moments of Pride: This theme represents the invaluable and countless experiences every person encounters during annual celebrations and commemorations around the world, The Pride experience is as unique as its participants, because it is unique to each participant.
Equal, Not Special: This theme indicates the LGBTQ+ community’s desire for rights that are legally ours, not special rights, because our goal is to be accepted for who we are.
Trans-cending Hate: Sadly we have lost many lives in our community this year all over our nation. Many trans individuals have been lost to senseless hate crimes. This theme is meant to honor their lives by actively keeping their names alive within our community, continuing to pursue justice for them, and letting the media know we want adequate coverage and accurate accounts of what happened to those we’ve lost.
Looking Back. Loving Forward: In honor of the 50th anniversary of Stonewall, this theme is meant to encourage the community to reflect back on the many challenges and incredible victories of the LGBTQ+ community in that time. Acknowledging the many people and Pride’s that have come before us will only help strengthen our community as we continue to fight for our rights and the ability to love ourselves and each other freely without fear of hate or persecution.
Boston Spirit magazine will announce the winning theme, along with the official Pride Marshals, as soon as they’re announced. For more on Boston Pride, check out bostonpride.org.
