It’s as much a celebration of community as an exhibition of living history.
Through the month of August RiverStones Custom Framing and The Franklin Gallery are hosting the show “Seacoast LGBT History: More Impact and Influence” at their 33 North Main Street location in Rochester, New Hampshire.
“This is the second year we are exhibiting in Rochester,” Tom Kaufhold, founder of the Seacoast LGBT History project, told Seacoast Online. “We will have a special section on transgender history and are looking forward to sharing other new items we have collected.”
“Our purpose is to research, document and preserve the history of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people on the Seacoast of New Hampshire,” he said.
The items on display—including vintage guides, posters, DVDs, brochures, pins, photographs, awards, newspaper clippings—are arranged to tell the story of the Seacoast LGBT community.
And they’re literally acquired right from the community: Kaufman is asking locals to “check out their closets” for artifacts for the 2019 exhibit, which will be held at the Portsmouth Athenaeum in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall uprising, Seacoast Online reports.
“I am excited to offer my gallery space again to display new artifacts from this very important project,” Kris Ebbeson, proprietor of RiverStones Custom Framing and Franklin Gallery, told the paper.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tues.–Fri., and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sat. For details, go to seacoastnhlgbthistory@gmail.com or call RiverStones at (603) 812-1488.
