Drumroll please… Community Research Initiative of New England (CRI) is honoring Jonathan Scott, president and CEO of Victory Programs, with the Dr. Cal Cohen Founder’s Award at CRI’ annual Summer Party on July 21, from noon to 3 p.m., at The Red Inn in Provincetown.
Jonathan Scott founded and pioneered the unique, innovative, essential, and highly regarded Massachusetts nonprofit Victory Programs as a vehicle to establish and protect a spectrum of community based-services and programs for those most vulnerable with few resources living with HIV/AIDS and addiction, especially in the LGBTQ community. Scott has established 30 vital, lifesaving, and life-affirming programs where no one is ever turned away. These programs include the Boston Living Center and many specialized residential care homes that provide housing for the homeless, AIDS services in greater Boston, and addiction treatment facilities.
The Dr. Cal Cohen Founder’s Award recognizes an individual’s commitment to the community CRI serves and honors their support of CRI’s HIV and hepatitis C (HCV) clinical research. The designation is named for CRI’s co-founder, longtime research director, and internationally known clinical investigator.
“Jonathan’s work at Victory Programs and beyond have made astounding improvements to the lives of people living with HIV, substance use disorders, and mental illness,” said Julie Marston, CRI co-founder and executive director. “Not only does he work hard to serve our community, he’s also a beacon of positivity and enthusiasm. The missions of CRI and Victory Programs have always aligned and complemented one another, and Jonathan has been a fantastic partner through the years. This award is a small way for us to thank him for the great work he’s done.”
In addition to bestowing the Founder’s Award, the annual CRI Summer Party allows friends, supporters, sponsors, and clinicians an opportunity to gather for a beautiful afternoon on the waterfront while raising money to support CRI’s lifesaving research and services. In 2017 alone, CRI helped more than 12,000 people, including covering 156,350 prescriptions for people living with HIV. CRI’s clinical research has contributed to the FDA’s approval of nearly all the HIV treatments on the market today.
