We’ve all got a role to play in advancing the care of LGBTQ+ youth and young adults. That’s the focus of an upcoming conference hosted by the Massachusetts-based JRI Health and JRI’s Institute for Research Inquiry.
“Too many LGBTQ+ youth and young adults face barriers when it comes to health care.” said Andy Pond, president and CEO of JRI in a press release announcing the conference. “We are so looking forward to coming together as a community to discuss how we can address disparities and ensure that our teenagers and young adults have access to quality health care.”
“Beyond the Basics: Advancing Care for LGBTQ+ Youth and Young Adults” will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19, at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. For tickets (which also includes lunch and snacks) and registration information, go to www.jri.org/beyond and click on “Register.”
The keynote speaker will be Dr. Caitlin Ryan of San Francisco State University’s Family Acceptance Project, and the closing speaker, Douglas Brooks, former White House Director of the Offie of National AIDS Policy.
The expert line-up also includes presentations by Professor of Practice Gary Bailey from Simmons College, Sean Cahill and Kerith Conron from The Fenway Institute, Carlene Pavlos from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and health educator Hope Freeman, plus several panel discussions on racial justice, interfaith issues and LGBTQ+ services across a continuum of care.
Justice Resource Institute (JRI) “works in partnership with individuals, families, communities, and government to pursue the social justice inherent in opening doors to opportunity and independence.”
