Every year, Boston’s Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence work their magic volunteering their good services at GLAD’s annual Summer Party in Provincetown. This year, GLAD is returning the favor, celebrating them as the big event’s guests of honor.
The 35th annual Summer Party to benefit GLAD is being held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, up on the beautiful grounds of the Pilgrim Monument & Provincetown Museum, located at 1 High Pole Hill Road in P’town. As always, the shindig features fabulous silent and live auctions (with comedian Kate Clinton at the gavel), delicious delicacies, and a chance to enjoy gorgeous views of town and harbor with friends and special guests and other GLAD supporters.
Self-described on their site, Boston Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are:
a modern Order of queer Nuns, comprising of people of all gender associations, all spiritual affiliations, and all proclivities to do good works.
The Boston Sisters are a House of The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence™, Inc. (www.thesisters.org), which was founded in San Francisco on Easter Sunday, 1979 and now embodies more than 2000 Sisters worldwide.
The five aspects of our Practice include Service, Education, Activism, Entertainment, and Ministry. We believe that people should be encouraged to live their lives in any way that brings them the most amount of satisfaction and joy, without guilt or shame, so long as they do harm to no one. This underlying philosophical tradition of pure non-judgmentalism informs every aspect of our Practice.
Their public manifesto?
We are the sacred clowns of our community, taking a stand on the edge of what our society defines as “normal”. All of those who walk beside us are by default closer to the center of the tent of inclusion.
You may be male, female, transgender, or intersex. You may be straight, gay/lesbian, bisexual, queer, or questioning. You may prefer wearing suits or dresses, leather or lace, or nothing at all. You may enjoy baking or boxing, kitsch or kink.
