Of $2 million spent to help keep Maine from having an equal marriage law on the books in 2009 only about $50,000 came from donors who actually lived in Maine.
In fact, most of it came from just one donor, Richard Kurtz, who lives in Cape Elizabeth, according to the Portland Press Herald.
The additional funding for the bitter ballot box battle came from wealthy funders from other parts of the country, including $1.25 million from Sean Feiler, hedge fund president at Equinox Partners and Kuroto Fund.
The revelations came after a long legal fight by the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) to keep names of the donors private.
