Boston Pride hosted its first ever gala on June 5 to kick off 2015 Pride Week (June 5 – 14). The event featured the presentation of the first Mayor Thomas M. Menino Pride Award to Harry Collings, former Menino confidant, former Boston Redevelopment Authority official, and owner of Back Bay Harry’s restaurant. Angela Menino, wife of the late mayor, presented Collings with the award. The event was held at the Courtyard Downtown Boston in the Theatre District.
The Mayor Thomas M. Menino Pride Award honors individuals and organizations for their demonstrated commitment to the visibility of and advocacy for the LGBT community in Greater Boston and beyond. The award recognizes the courage of its recipients who, in the face of adverse conditions, have taken a stand for Pride and our community. The late Mayor Thomas M. Menino, the award’s namesake, was an unwavering supporter of Boston Pride and the LGBT community throughout his tenure at the helm of the City of Boston.
