They’re here, they’re queer, and they want you to get used to the idea that sexuality and gender issues are for all ages.
BAGLY, a.k.a. Boston-Area Gay and Lesbian Youth is celebrating a new book that makes this point of theirs in big, colorful photographs and essays. The LGBTQ youth group is hosting a reception for Rachelle Lee Smith, author of “Speaking Out: Queer Youth in Focus,” from 6 to 8 p.m., on Thursday, June 4, at the First Parish in Cambridge, 1446 Mass. Avenue, in Harvard Square.
There’ll be plenty of refreshments, door prizes to win copies of the book, a talk and book-signing by the author, and even an interactive photo shoot.
According to BAGLY’s Facebook event posting:
“Smith describes the project in the book’s introduction: ‘Speaking OUT gives a voice to an underserved group of people that are seldom heard and often silenced. The collaboration of image and accompanying text serves to provide an outlet, show support, open minds, and help those who struggle. It not only shows unification within the LGBTQ community but also the commonalities across all borders regardless of age, race, gender, and sexual orientation.'”
