LPAC — the nation’s only organization dedicated to advancing the political representation of LGBTQ+ women and nonbinary candidates — has endorsed nine out, LGBTQ+ women for state and local offices, and Ashley Shade of North Adams, Massachusetts, is one of them. Shade is running for a seat on the North Adams city council.
Each of the nine candidates, states LPAC, comprise a diverse group of leaders that include parents, athletes, educators, social workers, social justice and environmental advocates — all committed to advancing equality, justice and progressive values across the United States.
“[This] slate of endorsed candidates embody the diversity of LPAC leaders, working across sectors and nationwide to advance equality,” said Janelle Perez, executive director of LPAC. “This year, we are continuing to show our LGBTQ+ community that there are strong, capable leaders fighting for them, and to show those seeking to curtail our rights that they face a steep uphill battle.”
A longtime resident of North Adams, Shade served as a senior service support consultant for Wayfair, where she also led an employee resource group for LGBTQ+ employees and allies, and was appointed to the Corporate Impact Council where she was able to help drive positive culture change within the global organization, states her campaign website. She is actively involved in numerous organizations, serving to advocate for marginalized communities. She works in Customer Service, and previously worked in health care at the hospital, pharmacy and nursing home settings.
Other LPAC endorsees announced this month include candidates from New Jersey, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Illinois and California.
